Who or What is Defining You?

Do you define you? Or, do you allow others to define you? Do your childhood or life circumstances define you? What about your career? What about the amount of money you have in the bank? What about society? Who or what defines you? Here’s a hint: it’s up to you to define who you are.

Many people go through life being defined by others and life experiences. Why? Your life is yours to live. No one, not even your parents, have the right to define you. If you had a crappy childhood, realize your parents did the best they could. Back in the day, people weren’t as open about talking about their ‘feelings’ as they are today. Also, most people had a dysfunctional upbringing. At least you know that you’re not alone. Please don’t pass the bad habits you learned onto your children. Otherwise, they too could face years of therapy and life coaching.

Who’s defining you?

  • Parents
  • Teachers
  • Childhood
  • Finances
  • Career
  • Friends
  • Church leaders
  • Society
  • Siblings
  • In-laws
  • Co-workers
  • Bosses
  • Family

Think about who or what is defining you and stop it! It’s time to take your life back and define you. It’s up to you to be who you want to be. Don’t allow anything or anyone to define you. Even if you had an abusive childhood, you could move past it and forgive those who hurt you. It’s not worth it to carry around baggage from the past. It’s heavy and doesn’t feel good. Let it go, let it all go. Start living your life for you — you’ll feel better.
