If you like to travel and love your pet, ask yourself “will my pet be comfortable and happy on this trip?” Some animals, like humans, prefer to stay at home. A “homesick” and possibly motion-sick pet will ruin your trip. You may consider leaving your pet with a friend, relative, or hire a pet-sitter. If you have a dog, consider boarding him or her at a clean, reputable, well-run kennel. If you have a cat, consider boarding him or her at a clean, reputable, well-run cattery. Check your local listings and the internet to find a boarding place that is right for you and your pet. Before you commit to a kennel or cattery, ask for and check references. Your “best friend” will appreciate it and you will have peace of mind.

If you decide to travel with your pet, plan for your pet’s trip as your own. Are you traveling by plane, train, vehicle, RV, bus, or boat? Do you know if you pet will be a welcome vacationer? Are there specific reservations and transportation arrangements to be made? If you stay at a hotel, motel, or campground, check if animals are allowed or if kennels are available. If you will stay with family or friends, make sure you pet is welcomed. You could find yourself in the “dog house” if your pet is not a welcomed visitor!

Pet Travel Tips

Make sure you pet ALWAYS WEARS a collar with complete identification and a license tag. You may consider having your pet implanted with a microchip. To learn more about microchipping, visit Home Again – Always Looking Out For Your Pet.

Pack your pet’s favorite food, snack, and dishes, toys, a cooler of water, litter and litter box, and leash.

Make an appointment with your veterinarian before your trip. Before you book that flight, make sure your pet is well enough to be your travel companion. Have your pet examined and vaccinated, if necessary.

If your pet will travel in a crate or carrier, make sure it is strong, large enough for your pet to stand up and turn around, has a place for food and water, and a litter box. Look for a crate or carrier that is well ventilated, has a leak-proof bottom, and closes tightly. Find a crate or carrier that is right for your pet at Only Natural Pet Store or you can Shop at PetSmart.com.

If you are planning a trip abroad, check with the consulate or embassy of your destination by visiting them online or ask your travel agent for advice. Health and vaccination regulations vary greatly.

Traveling with your pet can be a rewarding experience. Do your research and contact your veterinarian with any questions you may have. That’s good advice; I’ll use it when I take my kitten to the veterinarian on Saturday.

Happy travels,
~ Rebecca

So, you’re thinking about relocating? Are you 100% sure this is the right thing for you to do? Before you decide to move 2,000 miles across the USA or the world, take time to contemplate your decision. For some people, moving is the only answer. They may be on a “soulful journey” that can only expand by leaving the familiarity of their environment. The changes they experience in their new location will bring them closer to discovering not only who they are but the desires they have for their life. On the other hand, some people may stay in their current location. Perhaps they take a break for a couple of days or weeks to figure things out. Good for you if you are ones of the those lucky few.

On a personal note, I fall into the former category. I moved over 2,000 miles from Ohio to Arizona not only to “heal myself” but to figure out what I desire for my life. Of course, hindsight is 20/20. My options could have been to 1) leave my belongings at my mom’s house, 2) put all of my stuff in storage, 3) give away or sell my stuff, and 4) rent a place for 3-9 months. I did give a lot of my stuff away before I left Ohio. I’m glad I did because it was the right thing for me to do, and I was able to use only one moving pod.

Many self-help books are written to assist you on your journey. Just go to Hay House Radio where you can purchase books by Deepak Chopra and Sonia Choquette. The bonus is that you can listen to the various programs or sign up for one of the special events. Visit Debbie Ford.com to “hire Debbie,” purchase one of her books, or attend a lecture. On a personal note, I read Debbie’s books; with the exception of “Spiritual Divorce.” I really liked “The Dark Side of the Light Chasers” and “The Dark Side of the Shadow.” These books helped me tremendously. I had many “epiphanies” during and after I read the books. FYI: Debbie has a MySpace page, check it out!

Head to Barnes and Noble and see what they have in their “self-help” section. Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth” is very popular (I read the book) right now. You may want to buy your copy today!

Whether or not you need to move from your current relocation in order to “expand or heal your soul” is a decision that you can only make. Exercise all of your options. Go away for either a few days or weeks. Take some time to meditate or walk in nature. Become very quiet and listen to that inner voice, your spirit, your guidance system to make the best decision for you. If moving you and all of your belongings is the answer, don’t question it; just do it. You’ll figure it out soon enough. Sometimes later is better than sooner!

What do you do if you rescue a kitten and decide to keep it? What if you never had a kitten or cat for a pet? Do you panic, “freak out,” call your mom, or all the above? The kitten is scared because it was out in the cold stormy night, and you are scared as well. A kitten is like having a newborn child. You maybe clueless as what to do. If your mom is nearby then all you have to do is pickup the phone and it will be “mom to the rescue.” Unfortunately, if your mom is out-of-state then you must rely on the internet, local animal shelter (they rescue animals all of the time), or veterinarian.

Having a kitten who will grow up to be a cat is a huge responsibility. Cats can live up to 20 years! Be prepared to spend about $400 a year! Before you make the decision to keep the kitten, ask yourself if you are ready. Will you be able to handle the financial responsibility? What about time? Kittens love play time and each type of kitten is different. Read all you can about kittens and cats if you decide to keep your little treasure!

The 10 Essentials for Rescuing a Kitten

Find a good veterinarian. A good veterinarian will be interested in you and your kitten. Look for someone who is compassionate and kind. After all, it’s not just about your kitten. It’s about you as well.

Purchase kitten food. Do you prefer organic, natural, or any brand? Canned or dry food? Shop at PetSmart for kitten products. For natural and organic products, visit Halo Purely For Pets and Only Natural Pet Store.

Food and water dish. Do not give a kitten milk! Look for a dish that will be easy for your kitten to use. You may want to start with saucers and then upgrade.

Litter. All litters are not the same! Fresh Step clumps when your kitten does it “business” but it has a strong scent. Also, it will stick to your kitten. Gross! Plus, it’s not biodegradable or flushable. If the environment and conservation are important to you then look for natural and organic litters. Try World’s Best Cat Litter or Feline Pine.

Litter Box. Buy a litter box that your kitten can get in and out of with ease. You could buy an adult box. Be prepared to buy a stool so your kitten can get in and out of the box.

Kitten magazine and or book. A magazine or book is essential if you no nothing about kittens and cats. It will benefit you and your kitten. Read, read, read!

Toys. Kittens love to play! Purchase toys with catnip in them. Balls, teething toys, and feather sticks are a great way to develop your kitten’s skills.

Grooming Supplies. Does your kitten have short or long hair? Combs, brushes, and gloves are essential. Purchase the right equipment for your kitten. Shampoo. Organic, natural, or store brand? If you care about the environment, conservation, and your kitten, purchase a natural or organic shampoo. Other shampoos have many chemicals in them.

Stain and Odor. Accidents do happen. Try an all natural stain and odor remover. Visit OdorZOut to learn more about “Dr. Stink” who has a PUhD in Stinkology.”

Lots of love and attention! Your new kitten appreciates you very much! And, it’s a two-way street. Before you know it, your kitten will be the greatest friend you could ever have. Love your kitten and he will love you back!

Bonus!

Ask questions!! If the kitten is your first then you probably have questions such as:

1) How old is the kitten?
2) Does the kitten have worms?
3) What kinds of shots does the kitten require?
4) How often is the kitten to be fed? Which is better canned or dry food?
5) Do you have to register your kitten?
6) Can the kitten have a toy that contains catnip?
7) When can you start to bathe your cat?

On May 22 Senator and Presidential candidate John McCain was a guest on Ellen DeGeneres’ show. Of course, Ellen mentioned the story heard around the world which is “California’s-top-court-legalizes-gay marriage.”

Senator John McCain believes that marriage is an institution between a “man and a woman.” Senator McCain wished Ellen well and the best. Ellen joked that maybe “he could walk her down the aisle.” It’s the year 2008, and we the people of The United States of America are still “old school.”

What happened to equal rights for everyone? What happened to “The Preamble and the Constitution of The United States of America? Ellen, a woman is allowed to vote thanks to the Woman’s Suffrage. However, Ellen cannot marry whom she would like to and receive the same benefits from a “recognized” institution of marriage. This makes a lot of sense.

Ellen said to Senator McCain, “so what you are saying is, you can sit over here, but you cannot sit over there”? Meaning, we will allow you to vote and enjoy other rights, but you cannot marry a “person of the same sex.” Furthermore, Ellen can pay taxes to the government of The United States of America, but she is on a “totally different plan” because she happens to be gay. Certain rights for certain people.

The Civil Rights Movement was an important part of The United States of America’s history. Was it all in vain? This is the 21st century, and we still have issues with accepting others who are different from us. If we were all the same, planet Earth would be a bore. What would be the point of being here?

Anyone who is against the marriage of “gays and lesbians” should thank God they did not live in “ancient” Rome. Do you know what went on in the Roman Bathhouses? One can only imagine; perhaps political intrigue and sabotage or something more scandalous!

Live and let live! Visit Barnes and Noble to learn more about Civil Rights, The Constitution of The United States of America, or Woman’s Rights. To learn more about the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, please visit their websites.

Equality for everyone,

On Thursday, May 22, artist Steve McGarva was featured on the Ellen DeGeneres show to speak about his rescue efforts to help dogs on what is known as “Dead Dog Beach” in Puerto Rico. As of March 2008, Steve has been the Vice President of Island Dog which is “changing the way animals are treated in the United States Caribbean Islands.” Island Dog works “beyond the rescue aspect and are moving forward with a spay/neuter program for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Steve was also featured in the April 28th issue of People Magazine. His story goes something like this. One day Steve planned to go kite surfing and found a remote beach in Yabacoa. As Steve was unloading his gear, he spotted a dog that he believed to be dead. Steve approached the dog. The dog raised it’s head and wagged its’ tail. Unfortunately, Steve found more dogs that suffered from neglect. It was that incident that inspired Steve to begin his mission to help the dogs. Steve fed the dogs, gave them medications, stitched wounds, and reset broken bones! Talk about being a “Florence Nightingale” and guardian for the dogs. Animal rescue groups (Save a Sato) assisted Steve with rescuing hundreds of dogs. Steve is an inspiration!

All About Pets

Halo Purely For Pets. Ellen DeGeneres is part owner of this all natural pet care products organization. Halo’s mission is to provide people with honest information and wholesome products for their pets.

Only Natural Pet Store. Your source for healthy supplies for your dog or cat. Try a holistic approach to pet care.

Shop at PetSmart.com. PetSmart is the largest specialty retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets. They offer a broad range of pet products.

Animal cruelty is horrible. If people neglect animals, just think about what they do to human beings. Of course, if you watch the nightly news then you already know what happens.

p.s.
On a personal note, I rescued a kitten (maybe 5 weeks old) today. This was totally unexpected. My family has never had cats. We had dogs, rabbits, birds, and fish. The kitten I rescued (still nameless) is the first for my family. As the saying goes “there’s a first time for everything.” Also, remember what Bob Barker always said “have your pet spayed or neutered.”

On Sunday, May 18, 2008, CBS’s 60 Minutes aired a re-broadcast of the December 16, 2007 story called “A Visit to The Garden Eden.” This “pristine paradise in Indonesia” has been untouched by man. The rain forest did not need more exposure to the world. It has existed beautifully without the presence of man!

CBS correspondent Bob Simon and Bruce Beehler, the lead scientist from “Conservation International,” took a 20-hour flight to Indonesia, boarded a single engine plane, and loaded into a helicopter for a 45-minute ride. Reporters and scientists do not need to add pollution to the rain forest via an airplane and helicopter! How is this helping to conserve the rain forest? According to the article, this is probably why it took Bruce Beehler “24 years of begging before the Indonesian government would let him set foot there.”

Conservation and preservation of rain forests is a fabulous idea. However, this particular rain forest has been doing fine on its own. For example, Bob and Bruce discovered “no sign of human activity, no footprints, no trails, and no Coke cans. There are no sounds except for the sounds of birds.” The exception is if you’re a native and you live in the surrounding area of this Indonesian “paradise.”

Thank goodness for organizations such as Cafe Britt. The organization “contributes 5% of the sale price of all hardwood products to rain forest conservation.” Café Britt’s operation meets or exceeds international environmental standards under the norms of ISO 14001: 2004. Programs and projects are in place to make effective use of natural resources, prevent pollution and minimize negative environmental side effects.” If you are a coffee or chocolate lover, visit Cafe Britt to purchase your Premium gourmet coffee fresh from Costa Rica. Buy online today!

Bruce Beehler was correct when he said “this is a place apart. And I think it’s good that we go away. And we take our memories but allow this place to be as it is and be a special place for centuries to come.” Amen to that!

What does it take to be a good leader? Do you think you’re ready to move into a leadership position at your organization? A person may “climb the corporate” ladder but that does not mean he or she has leadership ability. Unfortunately, most people are promoted based on seniority instead of their qualifications. Seniority is not a good reason to promote someone to a leadership, management, or supervisory position.

Top 10 List

  1. Inspire and motive people.
  2. Confident and trustworthy.
  3. Committed to succeed and meet all goals. Never give up!
  4. Non-verbal and verbal communication skills. Say what you mean, mean what you say.
  5. Receptive to constructive criticism.
  6. Apologizes and admits mistakes.
  7. Listens with an open mind.
  8. Self-starter who takes calculated risks.
  9. Empowers others to think for themselves.
  10. Time management.

A definition of faith is “a belief in an idea that is unsupported, or contradicted, by evidence.” Does having faith really work? Do affirmations, mantras, and meditations help manifest your desires? Does changing your thoughts really change your life? Is “The Secret” helping people transform their lives? How many people experience instant turn-around in their finances, relationships, or health by repeating affirmations daily? Do these “techniques” work or is it a bunch of “hooey?” Many people are skeptical that you can change your life by “reprogramming” your thoughts. Perhaps the “skeptics” are right.

Hay House Radio has many eclectic programs. They range from Dr. Wayne Dyer to Debbie Ford to Doreen Virtue. Listeners tune into the shows each week to hear the “pearls of wisdom” spoken by these radio hosts. Phone lines are jammed packed with people wanting to know when and if their life will get better. Do they get better?

Taking a step to change your life for the better is a step in the right direction. But, how long does it take before you see the “fruits” of your labor manifest? Everyone has heard “have an attitude of gratitude.” Some ask the question “when will you take control of your dreams and aspirations?” If it is as simple as being grateful, taking control, or changing your thoughts, isn’t immediate manifestation of your desires and dreams guaranteed? What is the missing link or “the secret?” If anyone knows, please be kind and share your thoughts.

Not sure,
Rebecca

Listen up if you’re a guy and plan on using a pick up line! FYI: pick up lines rarely work! It’s a very bad move to use one. This is the latest pick up line used on me; “I don’t know if you noticed me starring at you all night long, but you are one very pretty lady. Hi, my name is so and so.” I was so “freaked out” by this line. The worst part is this happened to me at an event that I was volunteering at on Saturday, May 10. Guess what? The guy who used the line on me is an employee of the organization that I volunteer for. Great! I wanted to jump out of my skin and run like the wind. Yes, you need to “break the ice” if you see a woman who “catches” your eye. Why not be funny, original, or sincere? Not creepy! Forget about overtly sexual connotations. Double creepy!

Top 10 List of Horrible Pick Up Lines

  1. What’s your sign?
  2. Are you religious? Because you’re the answer to my prayers.
  3. What’s your name?
  4. If I could rearrange the alphabet, I would put U and I together.
  5. Do I know you from somewhere?
  6. I’m new in town. Could I have directions to your house?
  7. Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?
  8. I seemed to have lost my phone number. Can I have yours?
  9. Do you have a band-aid? Because I scraped my knee when I fell for you.
  10. You must be tired because you’ve been running through my mind all day.
  11. Are you from Tennessee? Because you’re the only 10 I see.

Read All About It!: Check out MSN.com, Ask Men, and Online Dating Magazine to learn even more horrible pick up lines guys use.

Here’s some advice, visit Barnes and Noble and pick up a couple of books on dating and relationships. When you approach a woman remember to be friendly not scary! Most importantly, gimmicks do not work! Good luck!
